Ancient and powerful beyond measure, the Great Dragon known as Sazarial the Silver has been a staunch advocate and defender of the mortal races of this world since the dragons arrived during the Alignment. His flight has, on three occasions, interfered in what dragons normally consider ‘mortal affairs’. Something that is only done with the blessing of the Council of Wyrms, which is the ruling body for the dragons consisting of the head of each of the dragonflights. This numbered seven when they originally arrived here, but that number has been reduced to five as both the Red and Bronze dragonflights have been destroyed. More on this later.

Sazarial is the last of the Silver dragons known to exist. His son and son’s consort were both assassinated sometime ago, though the exact date is unknown to us at this time. While dragons are notoriously secretive about their history and ways, we have managed to gather some significant details over the past few decades on Sazarial and the Silver Flight. This has been made easier due to their basing themselves in Chicago after the Battle of the Wall; again, more details on this later. According to some of our draconic contacts, Sazarial comes from what is considered to be a royal lineage among his kind. Though he is the last of his line, he does not enforce his ideology or will over that of the council of his peers. Silver dragons were once known as the crusaders among their kind, seeking to eradicate what they deemed to be evil.

This brings us to the first time the Silver Flight interfered in a mortal conflict, the Eastern Horde. As stated earlier, seven dragonflights emerged on this world after the Alignment, and those flights took up territory around the Mediterranean Sea in several various regions. During the Eastern Horde’s campaigns into Europe, they ran afoul of several draconic territories. This, in turn, caused the Council of Wyrms to authorize Sazarial and his flight to end the Eastern Horde’s expansions into Europe, where it could possibly continue to harass their territories. In less than a year, the Eastern Horde was defeated fully, and after their leadership was shattered during the Battle of Baghdad in 1294, they never attempted to expand westward again. Modern scholars believe that if not for their defeat at the hands of the Silver Dragonflight, the Horde would likely have taken all of Europe and wiped out many commonly held ‘Western’ beliefs and ideals.

It was sometime after the events of Baghdad that Sazrial’s son was assassinated, and the Great Silver Dragon somewhat withdrew. Centuries passed, and the Kith Slayer Wars ravaged European nations and Elven Houses. It wouldn’t be until the Great War, however, that the dragons would once more interfere in mortal conflicts. As the Empire swallowed up nations and shattered the Elven stranglehold on Europe, there were rumors of dragons aiding the Imperial forces. When the atrocities of the Empire’s genocide came to light, the rumors were also proven true. Itolostrix the Red’s flight had allied themselves with the Empire and aided in their genocide against the elves and those they deemed ‘deviants’.

The Council of Wyrms attempted to recall the Red Dragonflight but eventually would send Sazarial and the Silver Dragonflight to aid the Great King Arthur Pendragon and his coalition in defeating the Empire at the Battle of Berlin in 1947. This battle resulted in the deaths of Emperor Jogenstu, King Pendragon, and Itolistrix the Red at the claws of Sazarial. The battle effectively ended the Great War, although there were scattered skirmishes as some Imperial forces refused to surrender afterward. After the Great War, the Silver Dragonflight once again returned to its territory in the Alps.

Once the Infection broke out and became a global emergency, the Council of Wyrms was divided on how to react. This indecision led to the Bronze Flight attempting to engage the West Coast American Swarm early on in the Infected’s assault. The Bronze flight was very nearly completely wiped out. This included the death of their own Great Dragon. Only the flight members in reserve or too young to fight survived. As the Infection War continued, the Dragonflights would defend their territories and sometimes aid their neighbors.

The Silver flight, however, departed Europe and ended up in Chicago at the now legendary Battle of the Wall in 2052. The flight held back the Infected Swarm as millions of refugees made their way into the newly minted megacity. After the Swarm’s defeat, the Silver Flight took up residence in Chicago, giving the megacity its most famous moniker of ‘The City of Dragons’. The Silver Flight maintains its presence within the city to this day.

While it is always difficult to try and ascertain the motivations of a creature such as a dragon, it is my opinion that Sazrial should be looked upon as an asset to the G.M.C.C. The Great Silver Dragon has shown himself to be an ally of the ‘mortal races’ and has stepped in to save mortal lives and end destructive conflicts on three separate occasions. While his presence in Chicago has, at times, conflicted with the GMCC’s overall vision, it has also curbed the more selfish and predatory policies corporations implement in other megacities.

In recent years there have been rumors of a possible romantic connection with Serena Applebriar, the CEO of Applebriar Industries. These are just rumors and have not been substantiated at this time. However, I will say that I believe the rumors to be true from my own observations. This could be a potential point of leverage should the need for one ever come in the future when dealing with the Great Dragon
